2 Problems … 1 Solution

Deveraux Homes announced today that it will open Regina’s first carriage home at 4501 Green Apple Drive in The Greens on Gardiner neighbourhood. The opening is the next step in an innovative pilot project endorsed by the City of Regina that is aimed at addressing two emerging issues in the Regina housing market: affordable homes for purchase and historically low rental vacancy rates.

The Deveraux Homes carriage home development in east Regina is comprised of 11 independent family homes that each feature a spacious primary street-facing residence, as well as a secondary suite situated over a detached garage that overlooks a paved and well-lit rear lane. The primary home features up to 1,575 square feet of developed living space plus an optional basement development. The carriage or laneway suites are positioned above the garage, have separate private entrances and range in size from 530 to 760 square feet. Prices for these homes (with included garage and developed suite) begin at $564,900 + GST.

Denis Jones, President and CEO of Deveraux Homes, stated, “Carriage homes serve multiple functions. Those looking for an affordable home in a nice neighbourhood can occupy the primary residence and rent out the laneway suite as a ‘mortgage helper’. Alternatively, the secondary suite is a great option for a caregiver, an adult-aged child or even aging parents.”

With these multiple uses and functions, the Deveraux team is certain the carriage home concept will be embraced throughout the city and become a common housing solution in various neighbourhoods in the future.

The 4501 Green Apple Drive Show Home will open to the public on Saturday, June 21. The official launch of the Carriage Home project will be held on Wednesday, June 25 at 4 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony. In attendance will be Mayor Michael Fougere, members of City Council, members of the Urban Planning and Housing Commissions and other invited guests.
